Cuba
Travel to Cuba in 2009!
President Obama has indicated that he will lift the ban on Cuban-American family travel, but we, and our allies in Congress, will push to end the travel ban for all U.S. citizens once and for all. To that end, we are consulting with Marazul Charters, Inc., a licensed travel service provider, on a number of research trips that will allow U.S. citizens to legally travel to Cuba. The first trip, scheduled for March 14-24, is for full-time Mental Health, Social Service & Healthcare Professionals who want to research Cuba's urban and rural health and social service system. Contact us for information on this and future 2009 trips for Professional Organizers and Professional Educators. Join us in this historic moment to open up travel to Cuba, paving the way for fully normalized relations with our island neighbor!
Each participant MUST be able to qualify under a general license; we will facilitate this process with you.
To qualify for the Mental Health, Social Service & Healthcare professionals trip you must be working as a full-time Mental Health, Social Service & Healthcare professional.Only you can determine if the work you do constitutes full-time work (paid or unpaid). Please make sure that your resume reflects the work you do.
The final stipulation for traveling legally to Cuba is that you intend to disseminate the products of your research in some public way when you return to the US. This can be achieved by participating in public forums, by writing and publishing articles in professional publications or a number of other ways.
Cuba remains one of the few countries in the world that U.S. citizens are forbidden to travel to. This is not only a violation of our freedom to travel, but also impinges on freedom of religious groups and the free exchange of information and ideas through academic exchanges.
This is also an assault on the Cuban family. Now, Cubans living in the U.S. are only permitted to visit their family members in Cuba once every three years and new changes in regulations also limit the amount of remittances they are able to bring to family in Cuba. Most upsetting is that there are no exceptions to these regulations, even in case of family emergencies.
